About Me
Stories of redemption, hope and love…triumphs of the human spirit when all seems lost…peering into the natural world around us…social justice…science fiction and campy comedy…these are many of the types of creative work which motivate me to work primarily in post-production. Some of my favorite movies are Parasite (Korean: 기생충; RR: Gisaengchung), The Five Heartbeats, La Vie Est Belle (Life is Beautiful), any Star Trek movie, Crash, and The Prince of Egypt. Admittedly I’ve also always been a computer nerd at heart for as long as I can remember; tinkering with software, opening up computers and video equipment to see what’s inside and repairing them.
While studying computer science at UC Berkeley I discovered AVID Video Shop which led me on a media-oriented path with computers and completed my B.A. I continued that path getting my MFA degree at the Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television. Twenty three years later, I am an award winning motion picture editor, post-production supervisor, IT administrator, web developer, teacher and trainer; embodying all of the things that I’ve always loved - computer technology, storytelling, and information technology.
Throughout my career I have and continue to edit feature films, episodic narratives, documentary, industrial, promotional, lifestyle, teasers and trailers spanning broadcast, cable, social media and SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand) platforms and networks; ranging from content for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, NBC, Showtime, and the Weather Channel, to independent companies like motion graphics firm Montgomery & Co. Creative, Ignatian Spirituality-based Loyola Productions, and streaming platform Black&Sexy TV. I am a videographer, technical director for live events, and develop plugins for post-production teams. Leveraging computer and software technologies to increase productivity and enhance workflows are things I am genuinely interested in. Building databases, digital asset management, web development, server and shared resources deployment are often part of my toolset being that I prefer organization; benefiting me and the teams that I work with and serve.
I enjoy teaching and training others in the creative processes of production and post-production, and organizational strategies. I have taught and trained college students and professionals domestically and abroad, and enjoy building the Media Production Pathway at Da Vinci Communications High School. I also enjoy cooking, swimming, skiing, going to the movies, playing video games with my family, learning about emerging technologies, and simply going for a drive. I value quality work, integrity, and efficiency without losing sight of experimenting and having fun. I am comfortable using tools and trying methods that are industry-atypical if they’re more efficient. My education, professional experience, and core competencies in production, post-production and IT work allow me to have a unique perspective in an era where media and data are no longer as separate as they once were. One of the best and worst things about the work I do is it hinges on ever-changing technology; always keeping things fresh with a dash of new (temporary) stress. I consider myself pretty fortunate to be able to creatively explore and relate to the human experience, while sometimes emphasizing and even exaggerating it.
